Church Ministries : Community Programs : Youth Program
There are over 10 ministries that our members participate in here at PAOCC. The activities
provided by the various ministries gives church members an opportunity to uplift themselves, and our surrrounding community.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to
the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the
captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To

Church Ministries

Group Life - Group life is the center of all ministries of the Pan African Orthodox Christian Church. Attendance of group meetings is fundamental to church memmbership. It is through these meetings that members are transformed by the power of God into new life. Meetings emphasize a communal way of life, balance of the personal energy field and commitment to a covenant relationship with God. The group process results in an enlightened state of human consciousness achieving salvation for the Mind, Body and Spirit. Group Assembly is for members onlyand occurs on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 pm. New Members meet on Sunday at 2:00 pm. or immediately following worship service. Creative Worship Ministry – This ministry is responsible for theatrical stage productions which
emphasize African Traditions. Our annual Christmas Cantata, and Kwanzaa Celebrations are
produced by this ministry. Members have the opportunity to be progressively active in our mission and message by utilizing their talents for God. For more information contact Sister Raawiya.

Bible Study - Emphasizing the Afrocentric roots of the bible, our weekly Sunday school provides
you with an understanding of biblical principles and activities that enrich your life. Bible study

Jawabu Men's Community Network - This Network seeks to develop a network of black men to create a database of skills (practical and professional) and a database of life experiences to draw upon in effort to edify the male experience, politically, economically, and spiritually. We
seek to explore, expand, and evolve our understanding of each other as Black men through group meetings, workshops, conferences, and ministry outings restoring the harmony and

Choir Ministry - The Praising of God through song is an ancient practice and finds both biblical
and Afrocentric expression in the Pan African Orthodox Christian Church. The choir ministry
performs each Sunday and at special events throughout the year. Practice is on Tuesday evenings at 7:30 pm. Please contact our regional office for further information at 713-641-5035.

Sisters in the Struggle - This dynamic ministry for women is open to all members of the Church. Through schedule events which minister to the mind, body, and spirit of the black woman, this ministry enriches the lives of all its members. Community Programs

Social Action Ministry – The recipient of numerous awards, the ministry effects social and
political change by active participation in political forums, focus groups, and community outreach.
Members are invited to become active participants in effecting change in the lives of our people.

Feed My Sheep - Outreach ministry providing food and clothing to meet the immediate needs of
the homeless and less fortunate. For more information please contact Sister Furaha at

Health Ministry – The mission of this ministry is to educate, treat, and minister to the physical
needs of our people from a health perspective.

BYIA - Black Youth In Action - Teens ages 14-18 meet once a week to discuss the dynamics of teenage life in America . These meetings provide coping tools that help today’s teens achieve a balanced lifestyle through group outings emphasizing etiquette, cultural exploration, and team

Youth Programs

Umoja University - The Mission : to enlighten young minds to the realities of life through cultural, academic, and behavioral mentorship. Using Afrocentric techniques and fundamental models of education, exceptional instructors seek to elevate our children and their parents to the highest level of partnership while guiding them to recognizing their greatest potential. University hours are 9am-12pm on Saturday mornings for grades 1-12. The curriculum emphasizes TAAS skills. Youth Praise Dance and Drill Team -focuses on leading youth ages 6-12 to the experience of God through dance and drill team exercises. This exciting program builds confidence, emphasizes teamwork, and energetic spiritual enlightenment. This encourages the artistic, creative expression of our youth. Youth Bible Study and Sunday School - Adult Bible Study emphasizes the Afrocentric roots of
the bible through observation, interpretation and application. The Children’s Sunday School
(ages 8-14) provides an understanding of biblical principles coupled with biblical activities for life
skill enrichment. Adult Bible Study and Children’s Sunday School begin promptly at 10:00am each Sunday morning. Contact the Regional Office at 713-641-5035.

Youth Choir and Acolytes – Youth of the Church receive formal ritual training for participation in church worship services. This training gives them a better understanding of their role in worship services through song and participation in opening service rituals.
